The homeless, the indigents, the transients, the unhoused - are common terms used to describe- a group of people- who are on the outskirts of a society. However, these terms lump people into one definition, one type of person. As a result, it dehumanizes them and creates apathy and a misrepresentation of certain individuals.
A Transient Sanctuary is work based on reporting done with the Nightingale Health Sanctuary (NHS), an independently sustained group in Eugene Oregon. A community between 20 to 30 residents dwell legally but temporarily with Conestega style housing on 1.1 acres of land with rules and community service.
By attending their weekly meetings, events and daily routine happenings with NHS, my imagery will hone in on their humanity as a community- with common interests, deep concern for one another and challenges with daily life. They define the word, community.
